Ergonomic & Form Investigation

The design of the sunglasses incorporated a custom lens curvature developed through sketch iterations and refinement using paper modeling. SolidWorks was used to model the lens and nose curvatures, referencing existing glasses and direct nose measurements for precision.

Mold Making
The mold-making process involved positive and negative tools. The positive tool was made by gluing and shaping wooden planks, finishing with a nose piece. The negative tool, crafted from high-density foam, was precisely carved to fit the positive mold and accommodate lens thickness.

Thermoforming
Using PETG plastic, lenses were laser-cut and heated until pliable for molding. The thermoforming process required two cycles: the first shaped the curvature, and the second aligned the lens nose and applied pressure for the final form.

Film Application

3D Modeling and Printing
The blades were modeled in SolidWorks, using the front-frame as a reference, with measurements taken from existing sport glasses. The hinges were the final component, designed as pin-joints inspired by the screw joints found in Pit Viper sunglasses.
